This is how La Maliciosa mountain (2227 m) looked last Sunday (I guess today will be more snow there). I'm on my way to spend at the countryside the day. Even it has been raining almost all week it seems that today will be fine! (I hope so!). Sometimes it's very refreshing to go out of the city and relax a little...

Estoy a punto de irme al campo a pasar el día, y aunque ha estado toda la semana lloviendo mucho, creo que hoy se estará bastante bien por allí (¡eso espero!). Raindrops keep fallin'...

This is my neighbourhood, at 8 pm. Today it has been raining CATS AND DOGS all day. This is crazy, yesterday it was summer here and now it's cold and grey, OH!
At the bottom you can see one of KIO' towers (the bend building) placed in Plaza Castilla (here is a previuos post). The yellow neon in the building at right is a driving-school (where I got my license some years ago!). And all that green at the bottom is "North Park". Hope you like it :)

Este es mi barrio, a las 20h. Hoy ha llovido muchísimo durante todo el día. Es una locura, ayer parecía verano y hoy hace frío y es cielo está gris. JO.
Al fondo podeís ver una de las inclinadas torres KIO que hay en Plaza Castilla (click para un post anterior). El cartel amarillo luminoso es de una autoescuela (allí me saqué yo el permiso hace ya unos años!). Y todo el verdor que hay al fondo es el principio del Parque Norte. Espero que os guste :)

I really like some landscapes in Madrid. And this is one of them, from the Temple of Debod park there is a little viewpoint with a huge view of the Royal Palace (click for a previous post) and Almudena Cathedral. There is another little dome over there, I think it could be San Francisco Church but I'm not sure, so if someone knows... ^^

Nunca me canso de mirar algunos paisajes de Madrid, ¡y este es uno de ellos! En el parque del Templo de Debod hay un pequeño mirador con una gran vista del Palacio Real (mira aquí un post anterior sobre el palacio) y la Catedral de la Almudena. También se ve otra cúpula a lo lejos, creo que es la iglesia de San Francisco, pero no estoy segura, si alguien lo sabe... ^^

A smile in heaven

Ouh, I know it's almost Monday but i'm here now! I've just came home from my non-Madrid Sunday.
One of things I don't like of big cities is that there are sooo much light that you barely see some starts. And I love watching starts... but it's impossible for me to take a photo of them.. so here it is, the moon! ;) I like her shape... it reminds me of a picaresque smile!

Una de las cosas que no me gustan de las grandes ciudades es que casi no se ven estrellas. Y a mí me encanta mirarlas... pero es complicado/imposible para mí fotografiarlas, así que hice una de la luna! Y no sé qué pensareís vosotros, pero a mí esta me recuerda a una sonrisa pícara... ;)

Yesterday I attended to see my friend Elena, who had a role in a play called "Los Amigos de Peter" (Peter's friends) based in a movie by kenneth Branagh. and about some friends who met again for the first time 10 years after in Peter's house to celebrate New year's Eve. It was emotive, dramatic and funny and really really well played!
The cast: Álvaro, Iván, Alex, Irene -Cocó-, Elena, Pablo, Miguel, Ruth, María and Dani.
And makes me wonder... where would we be within 10 years?

Ayer fui al Teatro a ver "Los Amigos de Peter". Es una obra basada en la película de Kenneth Branagh (que yo no he visto) y habla del reencuentro de un grupo de amigos después de 10 años para celebrar la Nochevieja en casa de Peter. Fue una obra emotiva, dramática, divertida y muy muy bien puesta en escena!
El reparto: Álvaro, Iván, Alex, Irene -Cocó-, Elena, Pablo, Miguel, Ruth, María y Dani.
Y da qué pensar... ¿dónde estaremos dentro de 10 años?

Hey, I'm trying some new format... it seems we're all starting to enlarge our photos, and Alice (from Arrandon DP) wrote an easily how to do it on Menton DP... So here I am, with a bigger photo! :) thank you thank you!
Yesterday I went to take a walk to Temple of Debod (link to Wikipedia) park, which is a beautiful and peaceful (but also popular) place... I think I'm starting a serie today! this Temple was a Egypt's gift to Spain in the 60's (they said: thank you for your help, take this Temple!). And today is like a haven of peace in the middle of the city.

Ayer fui a dar una vuelta por el Templo de Debod, un parque chulísimo que hay cerca de Plaza España. El día estaba súper agradable y había multitud de turistas... yo parecía otra más ;)
Creo que empezaré una serie de este sitio porque tiene algo mágico... ¿será el toque egipcio? Este templo fue un regalo de Egipto a España en los años 60 y fue traído desde allí pieza por pieza... Hoy en día, el parque es como un oasis en medio de la ciudad.

Ok, yesterday, weather was fine, it was soft and sunny for a while so you can leave the coat at home. Even that, it rained! (you may see a couples of puddles there) But because we're on April it's such a normal thing. And there some saying/proverbs about that... I'll try to translate them:

Ayer el tiempo fue muy agradable, tanto que se podía dejar el abrigo en casa. Aun así, llovió! (podeís ver los charcos en el camino) Pero como estamos en Abril es algo normal, como queda dicho en algunos refranes.

3 towers and 1 arch for today

This is a view from a brigde over the A-6 highway start. In the middle lane it's the BUS-VAO, (road for vehicles with at least 2 persons). You can see here 3 "towers". From left to right, it's the "Escuela técnica superior de Ingeniería Naval" (Naval engineering and Architecture), then it's "Museo de América" (American museum), and then it's "Faro de la Moncloa", a 100 metre high transmission tower with an observation deck at the Plaza de Moncloa (which now it's closed). Also you may see an arch in the middle, that's "Arco de la Victoria" (Victory's arch) and it was told to built by Franco after Spanish Civil war to celebrates his victory.
So it is enough for today, uh?

Esta es una vista desde el puente que cruza la A-6 al principio. El carril del medio es el bus-VAO (carril para vehículos de alta ocupación). Vemos 3 torres, de izquierda a derecha, nos encontramos con la ETSI Naval, luego la torre del Museo de América, y después el Faro de Moncloa, una torre de 100 metros, que es un excelente mirador pero está cerrado al público desde hace mucho tiempo. En el medio de la foto, se ve un arco, es el Arco de la Victoria, mandado construir después de la Guerra Civil por Franco para conmemorar su victoria.
Bueno y ya está bien por hoy, ¿verdad?

Ok, this is something I found yesterday. The traffic signal says not parking there because then buses may not be able to turn. And someone added an H to BUS, and that's the story. USA president George Bush has a bad image here and people don't like him at all.... I don't want to hurt feelings but I found it funny/interesting...

Bueno, esto es algo que encontré ayer. La señal de tráfico indica que está prohibido aparcar porque eso no dejaría girar al autobús, y alguien añadió la H a BUS y ahí está el resto de la historia. George Bush no es muy querido en España, ni tiene una buena imagen. No quiero herir sentimientos pero encontré la foto curiosa...

If you're in Madrid any Sunday morning you have to go to Rastro! (Click here for some english and useful information ) This is our bigger street market and you'll find there almost anything you want. I was there last Sunday and many people did the same as you can see.

I found that Rastro is called like that because in the 16th century, there were slaughterhouse near the area and the slaughtered animals were dragged (arrastrados) from it to the nearby tanning houses (curtidores), leaving a blood trail (or rastro) (from Wikipedia)... ouch, that's an awful story... but keep on coming ;)

Si pasas en Madrid un domingo por la mañana no puedes dejar de visitar el Rastro! Este es nuestro mercadillo más popular y allí encontrarás prácticamente todo lo que quieras. Pasé por allí el domingo pasado y como veís mucha gente hizo lo mismo.

Acabo de leer que el nombre de Rastro viene del siglo XVI cuando en la zona había mataderos y el ganado de matanza se arrastraba por la calle hasta los curtidores, dejando un rastro de sangre... ups... es una historia bastante horrible, pero bueno, supongo que está bien saberlo.

Don't you think it's so nice when you came back from a travel and there someone wainting impatiently for you?
Yesterday I went to the airport to pick up my brother and his girlfriend and there were many people doing the same there, and today I have to come back there to take a flight to Dublín! Where Nacho, a friend and I are going to spend the next days visiting a friend. So there won't be post till Friday! :( (I'm sorry for that...)

This is the new "Mercado de las Flores" (Flower Market) in Tirso de Molina. The square has been redesigned to give a new perspective and a new life because it used to be a shortly umkempt place for homeless (but it was not too bad). It was something controversial (a flower market in downtown?) but I guess it happens with every change, there are people who love it and people who hate it.
Yesterday there was also a flamenco live-perfomance to make an atmosphere.

Este es el nuevo mercado de las Flores en Tirso de Molina. La plaza ha sido remodelada hace poco, un cambio de cara para darle una nueva vida, ya que era un sitio algo abandonado donde habitaban mendigos (esto suena mal, pero la plaza no era tampoco la ciudad sin ley). Ha sido algo polémico (un mercado de flores en el centro?) pero supongo que es algo que pasa con los cambios, siempre hay a quien le gusta y a quien le disgusta.
Ayer también había un concierto de flamenco para darle ambientillo.

This is a freshly cooked photo I've done a few hours ago in Plaza Mayor (another post). Today is Domingo de Resureccion (Resurrection day) and this "Tamborada"(drums and drums) happened at 12:00. There were lots of people everywhere so I have to strech my arm to take a photo (also, you can see plenty of bald heads here) and this is the best shot I've got.
Cheer up for to all the people coming back to work tomorrow after somedays of rest!

Esta es una foto recién sacada del horno, de este mediodía, desde la Plaza Mayor, donde se celebraba la Tamborada del Domingo de Resurección. Había muchísima gente por todos sitios, así tuve que estirar el brazo para sacar la foto (y de paso también muchas cabecitas pelonas) y este fue el mejor resultado... ¡Ánimo para aquellos que empiecen mañana a trabajar después de las vacaciones!

I'm back in Madrid! How was your week? ^^
Let's go with the post for today... ah, this is something you don't expect to see in a big city as Madrid, a little vegetable garden! You'll find here spinach, mint, tomatoes, etc. Some neighbours take care of it, and I think it's a great idea for spaces with no uses to make this kind of things.
I really don't know what they do with the harvest, maybe they celebrate a big salad-party? that would be fun!

¡Ya estoy de vuelta! ¿Qué tal la semana? ^^
Bueno, vamos con el post de hoy... Esto es algo que no esperas encontrarte en una ciudad grande como Madrid, ¡un huertecito! Aquí siembran menta, hierbabuena, tomates, espinacas, etc. Unos cuantos vecinos se hacen cargo de él, y luego no sé lo que hacen con lo que recogen... digo yo que lo repartirán o celebrarán el gran día de la ensalda! (eso sería divertido) Creo que es una idea genial para los pocos espacios muertos que hay entre los bloques de pisos.

Price Circus Theatre

I know this isn´t a good photo but look at the building carefully, it seems to be an office buiding or a museum but that´s a… circus!!!!! after years of waiting Madrid has its own stable circus. Every winters a big circus used to come to Las Ventas (bullring) but now we can enjoy circus show at any time. And the best thing (I think so but I´m not sure) is that here there isn´t any animal like lions, elephants or chimpanzees. I think wild animals must live free and not in a circus, that´s too cruel. Don´t you think??

Sé que esta no es una Buena foto pero quiero que os fijéis en el edificio, parecen unas oficinas o un museo pero es…¡¡un circo!! Después de años de espera Madrid vuelve a tener un circo estable. Todos los inviernos solía venir un enorme circo a la plaza de las Ventas pero ahora tendremos uno todo los días del año. Lo mejor de todo (aunque no estoy seguro del todo) es que en este circo no hay animales salvajes como leones o elefantes, creo que eso está muy bien, los animales salvajes deberían vivir libres y no encadenados en un circo. ¿No creéis?

Modernism in Madrid

For the lovers of architecture here is a fundamental modernist work in Madrid. It´s placed in Plaza de España and was built at the beginning of the 20th century. I have no idea of architecture or modernism but I love this building and I would not mind living there…

Para los amantes de la arquitectura esta es una obra fundamental del modernismo en Madrid. Está situado en Plaza de España y fue construido a comienzos del siglo pasado. No tengo ni idea de arquitectura o modernismo pero este edificio me encanta y no me importaría vivir en él…

Spring, where are you??

After several rainy days I finally saw the sun yesterday and thought that spring was coming, but it was a false alarm. Today it´s raining and it´s a bit cold…anyway the weather is really crazy thought flowers seems to be good.

Tras bastantes días lluviosos y ayer ví el sol y pensé que al fín estaba aquí la primavera pero fue una falsa alarma. Hoy está lloviendo de nuevo y hace fresco…en fin, el tiempo está loco aunque las flores parecen estar muy bien.

San Ginés

San Ginés church. I love the majestic tower, and not only it’s a beautiful building but a historical place; famous playwright, Lope de Vega, was baptized here and famous poet, Francisco de Quevedo, was married here!! sincerely I had no idea until I made this photo and set to investigate. It´s incredible how many buildings or places that you see everyday and the little you know about this…

Esta es la Iglesia de San Ginés. Me encanta la majestuosidad de la torre, no sólo es un edificio bonito sino un monumento lleno de historia, entre sus paredes fue bautizado Lope de Vega y Francisco de Quevedo se casó allí. La verdad es que no tenía ni idea hasta que hice la foto y me puse a investigar un poco. Es increíble cuántos edificios o lugares que vemos todos los días de los que no sabemos nada…

I took this photo last Saturday. I met some friends in Puerta del Sol and this was what I saw in the opposite sidewalk! It's Preciados street, a very commercial (and a pedestrian) one full of people, full of little walking heads... How many little heads may be there?

Hice esta foto el sábado por la tarde. Quedé con unos amigos en la Puerta del Sol y esto lo que vi en la acera de enfrente! La calle Preciados (peatonal), una de las más comerciales de Madrid, llena de gente hasta los tops, llena de cabecitas andantes... ¿cuántas cabecitas puede haber allí?

Theme day: A public mail box

So this is a public mail box near my house. This used to be the placed where my friends and I date, our meeting point. And behing the yellow theme day thing you can see Los Arcos roundabout I've showed you 2 times (one and two).
It's a long time since I don't write any letter... that's a pity, but emails are faster (confortable and cheaper) but less personal. I think that happens worldwide nowadays... maybe some day there were no mail box in the streets? I dont' think so :)

Pues este es el buzón protagonista del día. Aquí solía ser el punto de quedada con mis amigos para salir por ahi. Y detrás, veis la rotonda de Los Arcos que otras veces (una y dos) os he enseñado.
Hace un montón de tiempo que no escribo ni recibo ninguna carta. Es una pena pero el email es mucho más rápido (cómode y barato) aunque totalmente impersonal. Supongo que es algo que os pasa a todos... ¿algún día dejarán de existir los buzones en la calle? No lo creo...
