The ocio-area of the shopping centre is full of fast-food restaurants that I guess you can find all over the world... Sometimes I wonder if that is a positive fact or not... I think it's a real sign of "globalization". Maybe in a future we eat always the same in no matter where you are!
(By the way, next to McDonals is a chain of hairdress) (So maybe we cut our hair in the same way too!) ;)

La zona de ocio del centro comercial está llena de restaurantes de comida rápida que imagino se encontrarán en casi cualquier parte del mundo. A veces me pregunto si esto es algo positivo o no... pienso que es un signo inequívoco de la globalización que estamos viviendo. En un futuro puede ser que acabemos comiendo siempre igual sin importar el país dónde vivas... (por cierto, al lado de McDonals hay una cadena de peluquerías... asi que probablemente también todos nos cortemos el pelo de la misma forma!) ;)

Preciados street

Preciados is one of the most "shopist" streets of Madrid. And also where you will find lots of ilegal stuff sold in the street (We call it "top manta").
This blue awning you see in the top of the buildings are to prevent high temperatures in the summer or to make more confortable your walk, and they are cool uh?
I'm sorry for not updating everyday, this week I have it pretty busy and don't stop at home but for sleep at night!

I think I'd choose a bright yellow just in case I'd get lost in the Rastro I would be found quickly! hehe

¿Cuánto cuesta? = How much is it?
If you're in Madrid any Sunday morning you have to go to Rastro! (Click here for some english and useful information ) This is our bigger street market and you'll find there almost anything you want. I was there last Sunday and many people did the same as you can see.

I found that Rastro is called like that because in the 16th century, there were slaughterhouse near the area and the slaughtered animals were dragged (arrastrados) from it to the nearby tanning houses (curtidores), leaving a blood trail (or rastro) (from Wikipedia)... ouch, that's an awful story... but keep on coming ;)

Si pasas en Madrid un domingo por la mañana no puedes dejar de visitar el Rastro! Este es nuestro mercadillo más popular y allí encontrarás prácticamente todo lo que quieras. Pasé por allí el domingo pasado y como veís mucha gente hizo lo mismo.

Acabo de leer que el nombre de Rastro viene del siglo XVI cuando en la zona había mataderos y el ganado de matanza se arrastraba por la calle hasta los curtidores, dejando un rastro de sangre... ups... es una historia bastante horrible, pero bueno, supongo que está bien saberlo.

I took this photo last Saturday. I met some friends in Puerta del Sol and this was what I saw in the opposite sidewalk! It's Preciados street, a very commercial (and a pedestrian) one full of people, full of little walking heads... How many little heads may be there?

Hice esta foto el sábado por la tarde. Quedé con unos amigos en la Puerta del Sol y esto lo que vi en la acera de enfrente! La calle Preciados (peatonal), una de las más comerciales de Madrid, llena de gente hasta los tops, llena de cabecitas andantes... ¿cuántas cabecitas puede haber allí?

A chocolate fountain!!! isn't that gorgeous? A few days ago, Isabella from Naples (Fl) posted some fountains too but then I found this one in a confectioner's shop so I'm sorry about your beautiful fountains but I would definitely chose this one!! ;)

Una fuente de chocolate!! ¿no es maravilloso? Hace un para de días, Isabella del DP de Naples, Fl, publicó una foto con un montón de fuentes... Entonces yo me encontré con esta en el escaparate de una Pastelería y, lo siento por tus bonitas fuentes, pero ahora no tengo la menor duda ¡¡elegiría esta!! ;)

Nowadays this kind of good old grocer's shops are less and less common because of the large shopping centres found anywhere. I think it's a pity... but these local shops can't fight in bussiness against a big store.

Ultimamente es más difícil encontrarse con este tipo de tiendas de ultramarinos de toda la vida. Los grandes centros comerciales que salen como setas tras la lluvia agotan el negocio, y está claro que no hay posibilidad de competencia en cuanto a los precios. Pero aun así, es una pena que se pierdan estos pequeños locales, porque pienso que le dan carácter y personalidad al vecindario.

Don't buy there. It's too expensive!

I found this shoe shop called "Los guerrilleros" (maybe it would be in english "The little warriors" LOL) near Chueca district. And you can read in the neon light: "Don't buy here, it's very expensive" I think it's something you don't expect to read in an ad, but the truth is that this shop isn't expensive at all... so it's a game to catch your attention, and they do it well, don't you think?

Encontré esta zapatería llamada "Los Guerrilleros" cerca del barrio de Chueca. Y en el cartel se puede leer algo que no esperas encontrar en la entrada de una tienda "No compre aquí, vendemos muy caro". El caso es que no es una tienda nada cara, simplemente es un juego llamativo para captar tu atención. Y creo que lo hacen muy bien ¿qué opinaís?

Old toys

That´s not a toy shop, but an ancient drugstore. It´s located in the historical Madrid of the Austrias (near the Madrid´s “Cavas”) , high ceiling made of wood and old toys in the shop window with that my grandparents might have played.

No, no es una juguetería de hace cien años, es una farmacia muy antigua del centro de Madrid (junto a las cavas baja y alta) por la que parece que no ha pasado el tiempo. Techos muy altos , todo de madera y con esos juguetes en el escaparate con los que podrían haber jugado mis abuelos.

Bueno, a mí tanto muñeco me asusta un poco... pero ¿¿podeis imaginar la cantidad de horas que tuvo que echar el pobre dependiente para colocar todos esos peluches?? Mucha paciencia!
